What We Do

Research

HOUSE provides research services to post-secondary institutions by gathering primary data in the form of surveys, stakeholder consultations, and ongoing community conversations. We gather data relating to current student housing concerns, potential sites for future developments, and market rental rates and conditions.

Advocacy

HOUSE advocates for Canadian students in both individual and institutional capacities. Using our research findings, we advocate for increased affordable student housing resources from municipal, provincial, and federal governments, tenant and housing rights, and increased development of affordable student housing.

Development

Based on Quebec-based student housing developer UTILE’s proven development model, HOUSE is working alongside post-secondary student unions across Canada to develop affordable student housing. HOUSE staff members aid student unions in creating housing committees to help advocate for student housing to their post-secondary institutions. These committees then run levy referenda, and the resulting funds are used to fill the gap in financing toward building affordable student housing.
