Rent With Us

Welcome to
HOUSE Co-ops

HOUSE Co-ops (Housing Our University Students Equitably Cooperative) is a non-profit, member-directed housing co-operative designed specifically for students seeking more than just a place to live.

Unlike traditional rentals, this unique residential model offers a safe, affordable and community-based housing for students.

In a co-op, you are not a tenant, you are a member. This means you have a say in how your home is run, but it also means you share the responsibility for its success. Our goal is to provide stable, affordable housing that remains in the hands of the students who live there.

We operate two distinct types of housing. You may apply for both or indicate a preference for one during your application.

Kindly be advised that our properties do not have wheelchair accessibility.

Shared kitchen, 2 bathrooms and
living room

Independent units with 2 bedrooms,
1 bathroom, and private main living areas.

  • Amenities: Air conditioning, laundry in-building, and parking.

  • Participation: Your responsibilities focus on the broader governance of the co-op—attending meetings, voting on budgets, and serving on committees. There will also be opportunities to volunteer in the community.

  • Lifestyle: Ideal for those who value independent daily living but still want to be part of a democratic, supportive community.

Cuffley Suites is a walk-up building (no elevator). Members should be aware that all units are accessed by stairs, which may impact accessibility and day-to-day movement within the building. It operates as an apartment-style co-op, where members live in independent units and do not share kitchens or main living spaces. Unless applying as a single applicant where you will be assigned a roommate and share household responsibilities.

You are expected to attend meetings and contribute your voice to community decisions.

Respect

We approach differences in lifestyle, and
background with openness and understanding.

Responsibility

You are accountable for your actions and how they affect your neighbors and the property.

Community

We aim to support one another, ensuring that
everyone feels connected and safe in their home.

Your Path to Membership

Because co-op living is a shared commitment, we follow a specific process to ensure all members are fully prepared for this model

1. Submit your Application Form

First, submit an application to the HOUSE co-op.

2. Mandatory Information Session

Once your application is accepted, you will attend a training and orientation session that explains exactly how a co-op works, what governance looks like, and what your responsibilities will be. These will be held in-person or virtually for those currently living remotely. You must complete this training before you can proceed with a formal application.

3. Manual Review & Agreement

Following the info session, you will be sent the full Membership Manual. You must read the manual in its entirety. If you agree to the terms, expectations, and legal responsibilities outlined within it, you will sign an agreement to move forward.

4. Membership Interview

Interviews will be conducted with prospective candidates. This will consist of a conversation with current co-op members and HOUSE staff to discuss your application and your interest in the co-op. This step is designed to ensure a mutual fit between your housing needs and the co-op’s community goals.

5. Move-In & Orientation

Once accepted, you will receive a move-in package including building access codes, emergency protocols, and your initial meeting schedule.
